Royal College of Medicine Perak (RCMP) became part of University Kuala Lumpur in 2006 as its medical wing with the objective of providing affordable medical education, as well as facilities for continuing professional development for medical practitioners.

UniKL RCMP is strategically located in the heart of Ipoh, the capital of Perak and the third largest city in Malaysia. Situated on a six acre site, with its distinctive Moorish architecture, UniKL RCMP is within the vibrant and well planned township of Greentown where shopping malls, restaurants, food courts, clinics, banks and tourists attractions are all within easy reach.

The college is equipped with lecture theatres, a multipurpose hall, clinical skills laboratory, a pathology museum, library, computer laboratories, science laboratories, prayer rooms, mini kiosk and a dedicated anatomy building. The quiet environment, in spite of being in the heart of the city, offers a conducive atmosphere for academic pursuits.

By 2009, the college had an enrolment of more than 2000 local and foreign students attending various courses in medical education and health sciences. The students are enrolled in various medical and healthcare programmes at the foundation, diploma, degree and postgraduate level. The college started the Bachelor in Nursing programme for practising nurses in January 2010. The presence of international students reflects the trust gained by UniKL RCMP. RCMP will continue to offer quality allied health science programmes to fulfill the market needs.

In anticipation of the growing number of students, RCMP has put up a new 10-storey building at a cost of RM79 million. It was completed in 2016, doubling the floor space of the current Moorish architecture building. The new building houses a hostel for 800 students, lecture halls, staff offices, cafeteria, clinics, library and laboratories.

The success of the college lies in its dedicated and well qualified staff, with a wealth of experience in the field of management, medicine and health sciences. In its early operations in 1999, the college had started with only 7 staff members but today the number has increased to more than 330.

As an institution registered with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC), UniKL RCMP has established agreements with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) which enables the college to gain access to government hospitals in Perak, and other states in Malaysia.

With this and the collaboration with other private healthcare institutions, UniKL RCMP potentially offers students greater exposure to a variety of patients and a wide spectrum of diseases.

At present, the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Sg Siput Hospital, Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Taiping Hospital, Sri Manjung Hospital, Batu Gajah Hospital and all community Polyclinics in the State of Perak, are being used as teaching centres for the college.

The Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, provides excellent clinical teaching resources with the presence of well-qualified consultants and medical personnel who help to enhance the student’s learning experience. In ensuring that the courses are relevant to the health industry, UniKL RCMP is working closely with the healthcare authorities and service providers.

As for the private hospitals, we are proud to work hand in hand with a handful of reputable ones, such as KPJ, Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Sunway Medical Centre, Loh Guan Lye Hospital, Colombia Hospital, Pantai Medical Hospital, Perak Cimmunity Specialist Hospital and Kinta Medical Centre.
