5TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF TROPICAL MEDICINE AND INFECTIOUS DISEASES (ICTMID) 2022
“NEW PARADIGMS IN A MICROBE-THREATENED WORLD”

The International Conference of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases (ICTMID) 2022 held on 23^rd of August 2022 to 25^th August 2022 is a regularly conducted event organised by the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP). The first edition of ICTMID was held in 2012, followed by the second, third and fourth ICTMID in 2015, 2017 and 2019 respectively. This year, ICTMID 2022 is being held, as a virtual event, for the fifth time via zoom platform with the theme for “New Paradigms in a Microbe Threatened World”, which is fitting one at the time of COVID-19 and its aftermath.

The foremost objective of this conference is to bring together the knowledge and expertise of distinguished scientists, academicians and clinicians ensuing an informed and beneficial exchange of ideas and to bring closer cooperation and better approach in the management and prevention of infectious diseases. It will also help to enhance the visibility of UniKL locally and internationally which falls in line with the university’s mission of We4Asia. In the coming years, the faculty envisages to bring more participants both local and international.

This conference is co-organized with two other international universities namely Pennsylvania State University, USA and Ras Al Khaimah Medical & Health Sciences University, United Arab Emirates. The conference is lined up with 6 plenaries and 20 symposium talks, addressing various aspects of tropical medicine and infectious diseases, with special emphasis to aspects of COVID-19 infections, its outcome and control.

This year, ICTMID has attracted over 300 participants from 17 countries which includes USA, UAE, Hong Kong, India, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Myanmar, Pakistan, Iraq, Singapore, Iran, Switzerland, Jordan, Bangladesh, Sudan and Tanzania

The scientific committee has envisioned a comprehensive programme deliberated by renowned speakers who will provide the delegates with the up-to-date developments in medicine, health sciences and diagnostics.

The conference also encases e-posters and e-video presentations by the participants as the final session on all three days of the conference. Three best posters and e videos were awarded with cash awards. 

The organizing committee would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Honourable Dato’ Dr. Afifi Al-Akiti, Chairman of UniKL RCMP, Honourable Datuk Dr. Roziah Omar, the President/ Chief Executive Officer of UniKL, Tuan Haji Hisshamuddin Omar, the Head of Campus of UniKL RCMP and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syed Rahim Syed Hamid, the Dean of Faculty of Medicine and Advisor of ICTMID 2022, for the constant support, ideas, suggestions and encouragements in making this conference a reality.

It is hoped that this 5th ICTMID has added some gleams and glitter to the 20th Anniversary of Universiti Kuala Lumpur.It is also hoped that this conference will serve as an international forum for future collaborations to be developed between universities and organizations.
