About UniKL RCMP
Royal College of Medicine Perak (RCMP) earlier started as a private college offering the University of Sheffield and Universiti Malaya MBBS programme. Upon its affiliation with University Kuala Lumpur in 2006, it became known as Universiti Kuala Lumpur-Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) offering its own MBBS programme as well as a whole other programmes related to the medical field, such as, the Bachelor in Pharmacy and Bachelor in Nursing. As the medical wing of UniKL, the objective is to provide affordable medical education, as well as facilities for continuing professional development for medical practitioners.
In UniKL RCMP, the students are enrolled in various medical and healthcare programmes at the foundation, diploma, degree and postgraduate level. The presence of international students reflects the trust gained by UniKL RCMP to provide quality educations. AS such, UniKL RCMP will continue to offer quality medical and allied health science programmes to fulfil the market needs. In anticipation of the growing number of students, UniKL RCMP has put up a new 10-storey building which was completed in 2016, doubling the floor space of its earlier building.
As for its location, UniKL RCMP is strategically located in the heart of Ipoh, the capital of Perak; and which due to its period houses, century-old and historic buildings, has gained the 6th spot in Lonely Planet list of TOP 10 destinations in Asia; and to complement this, UniKL RCMP stands proud with its own distinctive Moorish architecture. UniKL RCMP has the privilege to stand within the bustling centres of Ipoh town where shopping malls, restaurants, food courts, clinics, banks are all within walking distance. The college is equipped with lecture theatres, a multipurpose hall, clinical skills laboratory, a pathology museum, library, computer laboratories, science laboratories, prayer rooms, mini kiosk and a dedicated anatomy building. The quiet environment, in spite of being in the heart of the city, offers a conducive atmosphere for academic pursuits.
As an institution registered with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC), UniKL RCMP has established agreements with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) which enables the college to gain access to government hospitals in Perak, and other states in Malaysia. With this and the collaboration with other private healthcare institutions, UniKL RCMP potentially offers students greater exposure to a variety of patients and a wide spectrum of diseases.
In ensuring that the courses are relevant to the health industry, UniKL RCMP is working closely with the healthcare authorities and service providers. At present, the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Sg Siput Hospital, Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Taiping Hospital, Sri Manjung Hospital, Batu Gajah Hospital and all community Polyclinics in the State of Perak, are being used as teaching centres for the college. The Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, provides excellent clinical teaching resources with the presence of well-qualified consultants and medical personnel.
The working relations extend to the private sectors in which UniKL RCMP also work closely with many of the reputable private hospitals, including but not limited to, KPJ Medical Centre, Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Sunway Medical Centre, Loh Guan Lye Hospital, Colombia Hospital, Pantai Medical Hospital, Perak Community Specialist Hospital and Kinta Medical Centre.
